REVIEW OBJECTIVE: The recent global pandemic has dramatically changed the landscape of anesthesiology education in unexpected ways. It is important that we take a break to learn the lessons of this crisis.

RECENT RESULTS: Most resident interns actively caring for patients with COVID-19 have a probable or subclinical finding of post-traumatic stress disorder. Resident anesthesia training programs have evolved to continue the mission of anesthesia training in the face of institutional restrictions and evolving clinical crises.

SUMMARY: The recent global COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated how external stressors can dramatically disrupt traditional medical education pathways. Resilience to external disruptive forces in anesthesia education includes a leadership willingness to understand the problem, flexibility to adapt to the needs of learners and instructors in the face of key challenges, technology deployment and research. solutions focused on innovation, where appropriate, and attention to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
